In 2003, a significant development occurred when Habanos S.A., the Cuban state-owned cigar company, announced that the Trinidad brand would be discontinued except for the Trinidad Fundadores size. This move elevated the Fundadores to legendary status, becoming a prized collector's item.

In the early 2000s, a non-Cuban version of Trinidad cigars emerged, produced by Altadis U.S.A., a cigar company based in the Dominican Republic. These cigars are crafted with a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos and are intended for the international market.

The Dominican Republic-produced Trinidad cigars are known for their refined and sophisticated flavor profile, characterized by notes of cedar, nuts, and spice. The cigars are expertly rolled and meticulously crafted, offering a smooth and enjoyable smoking experience.
